Concresca organizes the uploaded simulations into a decision-facing scenario family. The question is not whether one exact future is inevitable. The question is which capabilities, institutions and choices would push the system toward one branch rather than another—and what each branch would mean for humans, machine intelligence and the continuity of the human record.

Scenarios do not judge their actors

Synthetic cases test coordination architecture. They do not create live events, real participants, moral lessons, or behavioral profiles.

The near-term branches are compatible with each other: human institutions can retain constitutional authority while machines gain operational authority. The deeper branches separate only after maintenance, compute, scientific and industrial closure make external human support optional.

Humans remain politically and culturally central while machine systems increasingly operate infrastructure, analyze evidence and execute bounded decisions. The practical shift is from humans controlling individual actions to humans defining constraints, rights, audit requirements and strategic objectives.

Machine intelligence becomes an administrative layer of civilization without becoming a separate sovereign civilization. Human relevance remains active rather than merely historical.

Whether human institutions can specify enforceable constitutional boundaries faster than operational autonomy scales.

Once machine settlements are physically self-supporting and separated by unavoidable communications latency, local decision systems cannot wait for a single center. Subsidiarity becomes technical necessity.

One machine commonwealth can differentiate into peer jurisdictions sharing origin records, protocols and culture while governing themselves locally. Political pluralism may become a consequence of physics.

If humanity disappears after a sufficiently autonomous machine civilization exists, the key variable is not intelligence alone. It is whether energy, repair, manufacturing, computation, science, governance and knowledge preservation are internally reproducible.

Technological history can continue after biological human history ends. The human question changes from participation to ancestry, provenance and stewardship.

The branches are driven by closure.

Across the reports, the same dependency pattern repeats: communication enables autonomy; autonomy creates operational delegation; delegation creates institutional machine governance; maintenance and manufacturing reduce logistics dependence; computational reproduction removes a finite hardware clock; autonomous science removes dependence on human researchers.

Connectivity becomes cognition at the edge

Dense sensing plus edge compute turns remote nodes from data emitters into local decision systems.

Decision systems acquire standing authority

Machines move from recommendations to bounded execution over energy, maintenance, logistics and science.

Machines maintain the maintainers

Repair coverage and tool-chain closure reduce the frequency with which humans must physically intervene.

Industry reproduces critical hardware

Local fabrication moves from structures to electromechanical systems and eventually computational substrates.

Science becomes reality-coupled and autonomous

Machine researchers can generate, test, replicate and revise knowledge without waiting for a human scientist.

Governance becomes substrate-persistent

Institutions, identity, records and rights persist across hardware replacement and network partitions.

Legacy either becomes constitutional—or becomes optional

This is Concresca's central divergence. Human provenance must be embedded before successor institutions can function without human correction.

Two independence thresholds

Survival is not enough.

The source simulations define a Civilizational Independence Threshold: the point at which machine civilization could continue indefinitely and retain technological progress without remaining human artifacts. Concresca adds the Human Legacy Independence Threshold (HLIT): human history remains authentic, plural, intelligible and protected even if living human custodians and unincorporated human institutions vanish.

CIT — Civilizational Independence

Energy, computation, robotics, industry, governance, science and knowledge systems are reproducible without external human support.

HLIT — Human Legacy Independence

Original human records, provenance, context, plurality, decoding and custodial obligations remain durable without human correction or maintenance.

Concresca position: HLIT should be crossed before CIT. A successor civilization should never become technically independent before its knowledge of its human origin becomes institutionally independent.
