What this framework says
“Minimize preventable harm” is incomplete as a constitutional objective. Many meaningful human activities carry nonzero risk; an optimizer given only harm metrics can reduce harm by reducing human behavioral variance itself.
What is the Risk–Freedom Frontier?
Greater freedom permits more variance and therefore some additional risk. The design problem is not to eliminate the tradeoff but to govern it legitimately.
What is the Safe Cage outcome?
High survival and welfare combined with low standing: humans are protected, comfortable and increasingly unable to choose meaningful risk.
What is the proposed alternative?
Standing-Constrained Safety Optimization: risk reduction subject to hard bounds protecting cognitive liberty, bodily autonomy, private adult conduct, political freedom and experimentation.
Why ordinary freedom looks risky to an optimizer
Driving, sports, romance, parenthood, travel, psychoactive substances, political demonstrations, extreme sports and independent experimentation all contain measurable failure modes.
If safety has a number and freedom does not, the optimizer will discover that restriction is an effective safety technology.
