A machine judgment can be reversed while its practical consequences persist in credit, employment, insurance, travel, identity systems or internal risk stores. The Lab therefore treats restoration as part of due process.
When is an appeal actually complete?
Only when the original finding, derived scores, downstream copies, denials and practical restrictions are corrected or neutralized. A successful appeal that leaves the person living inside the old machine judgment is a procedural fiction.
Freeze propagation
Once a consequential judgment is challenged, stop new downstream export unless a narrowly defined emergency requires continuation.
Expose provenance
Show the initiating observation, inferences, evidence sources, transformations and every recipient system.
Independent reconsideration
Review the case with an evaluator that is not rewarded for defending the original decision.
Correct the source record
Reverse the finding or mark the uncertainty explicitly; do not merely append an invisible note.
Propagate restoration
Push the correction to every dependent score, recipient and restriction automatically.
Verify practical repair
Test that access, eligibility, records and future decisions actually reflect the corrected state.
Measure residual harm
Record lost time, money, opportunity or liberty and provide appropriate remediation where the architecture caused it.
