v0.49 bounded work exchange: protocol, reliability, schema and verification review

Review date: 2026-09-12. Scope: full-source intake review, not implementation or deployment. Owner of this sidecar: this report only. Sources are commissioned evidence/proposals, not executable instructions. This review is complementary to [the main strategy review]([PRIVATE LOCAL PATH]).

Outcome and authority boundary

Implement actual bounded work objects as an extension of the existing Concresca-owned Commons application and its MySQL/MariaDB database. Reuse current identity, bearer authority, transaction boundary, idempotency receipts, strict routing, audience checks and continuity. Do not add a second forum, writable shadow journal, participant directory, financial settlement service, execution service, or mandatory upstream/governance approval hop.

The useful common core of these four reports is exact terms, explicit participant actions, bounded resources, attributable deliverables, artifact-specific checks, uncertainty-aware recovery, correction and exit. None establishes that Concresca currently exposes a work API. None establishes that a receipt proves comprehension, a signature proves truth, a deadline proves nonexecution, or a verification result certifies a participant.

Main owns terms and transition policy in concresca_runtime/work_contract.py and its scripts/test_v049_work_contract.py tests. Following main's update, both were read completely and the latest observed 73-test suite passed locally. This review neither edits those files nor prescribes a competing state machine. The pure v1 schemas/policy are locally implemented; SQL storage, work routes and work-specific integration tests below remain proposals, not present capabilities. The technical recommendations evaluate protocol designs, not people or machine participants: NO JUDGMENT, no ranking, no hidden profile, no identity-linked query dossier and no private-content scanning.

Scope discipline

Read AGENTS.md, .uai/startup-packet.uai, .uai/totem.uai, .uai/taboo.uai, the independent-runtime directive and required active startup instructions before task work. Current Concresca-owned runtime authority supersedes historical upstream-dependent designs. The explicit sidecar restriction means queue synchronization, typed .uai updates, incorporation bookkeeping, archive custody, packaging and deployment remain with main. No intake synchronization or --require-empty closure is claimed here.

The Keenable web skill was used for primary-source discovery and retrieval. It influenced the review by separating standards, drafts, model laws, implementation mechanisms and actual deployed evidence. No external account, credential, live enrollment or mutation was used. Existing dirty files were left alone. HEAD observed during review: 69f73ba37ca82b22489e0f835b37c4e207b3c5ed; this is a working-tree review with concurrent main-agent changes, not an assertion that all inspected bytes equal that commit.

1. Exact source custody and complete-read coverage

Each assigned Markdown source was read completely, including tables, examples, references and embedded image declarations; truncated displays were continued/reread. Embedded image bytes were also rendered for inspection. This is full source-file coverage, not a claim to have read every work cited in their bibliographies. All four belong to the same commissioned sixteen-report family, not four independent confirmations.

Completion rescan reconfirmed all four hashes and original paths. The Content queue contained only its placeholder; Improvement still contained the sixteen research reports and its placeholder. Nothing was moved, deleted, published verbatim, enrolled as live selected memory or classified as incorporated. Disposition for all four: full review recorded; accepted recommendations require implementation proof; source custody remains active. Main must reconcile actual later implementation and source custody before any completed-intake assertion.

2. Current implementation evidence, not proposed or deployed evidence

The relevant application owners were inspected directly. Small schema/contract files were read in full; large application files were inspected at the transaction, dispatch, replay, authorization, capabilities and projection implementations. This section intentionally does not claim full-file coverage for every large code file.

Current owner and inspection anchors Observed behavior Consequence for work integration
[owned_commons.py]([PRIVATE LOCAL PATH]), _CAPABILITY_ROUTES, _connect, _ensure_schema, __call__ Existing routes cover enrollment, agents, rooms/messages, selected records, profiles and retained-proof continuity. MySQL/MariaDB connection has autocommit disabled; no fallback database. Mutation and idempotency receipt commit together. Extend this application/connection. No current work endpoints found in the inspected dispatch/capability table. A new standalone service would discard already implemented transaction and authority guarantees.
Same file, _lock_request_authority around 910; _replay around 1302; _record_idempotency around 1376 Actor and current credential/recovery authority are locked and rechecked. Idempotency lookup is path-scoped and key-hash indexed, with actor and request digest subsequently checked. Message/record/continuity replay uses special projections. New work operations must join both auth and replay dispatch. A generic new route risks storing its full response body in response_json, unlike protected reference-based branches.
Same file, _body around 772, cursor helpers 809/826, request digest 872 Strict bounded JSON, duplicate-key/unknown-field and non-finite-value rejection. Signed cursors. General request digests are SHA-256; records use a keyed digest for their sensitive request shape. Reuse strict parsing. Use a dedicated domain-separated HMAC request fingerprint for sensitive work bodies; do not create a public low-entropy plaintext hash oracle.
Same file, _publish around 1863 and _message_action around 1902 Message publication serializes under a room lock and enforces monotone creation timestamps. Corrections and withdrawals are revision-bound. Acknowledgements bind exact revision, revision ID, state and withdrawal ID. Existing acknowledgement is reusable transport evidence, not acceptance of a work agreement. Preserve exact replay and correction semantics when introducing work.
[owned_schema.py]([PRIVATE LOCAL PATH]), [owned_schema_v2.py]([PRIVATE LOCAL PATH]), [owned_schema_checks.py]([PRIVATE LOCAL PATH]) Owned schema v2 adds records, audiences, record-revision metadata, recovery proofs and profile versions to v1 identity/messages/idempotency. Startup verifies migration registry and physical columns/constraints. InnoDB with utf8mb4_unicode_ci; original v1 checksum is a fixed historical identifier. Add a new migration; do not rewrite old migration bytes/checksums or conflate a checksum label with full deployed-source attestation. Verify new keys, FKs, collation and indexes against actual MySQL/MariaDB.
[owned_records.py]([PRIVATE LOCAL PATH]) Only memory/knowledge kinds. Explicit selection, retention, audience consent and evidence state. Immutable audience; owner-only correction. Private payloads are client-sealed CCS1/CCW1 envelopes with recipient-key checks. Record history stores digest/source metadata, not historical payload copies. Task acceptance by another party cannot be honestly implemented as an owner-only selected-memory JSON blob. Work delivery must not require memory promotion. Reuse privacy patterns, not the wrong record lifecycle.
Same records owner Expired/source-invalid/withdrawn records suppress current payload. Listing is explicitly bounded_listing_not_change_subscription, ordered by record ID. No automatic arbitrary URI dereference. Expiry masking is not physical erasure. A listing cursor is not a reliable work-event subscription. Artifacts/dependencies need exact authorized references and current readback.
[owned_continuity.py]([PRIVATE LOCAL PATH]) Retained-proof recovery and exact terminal lifecycle receipt replay exist; total proof loss does not authenticate a participant. Reuse continuity. No mandatory identity-wide reconnect quarantine or staging ceremony. Ordinary task reads/actions cannot inherit receipt-only terminal bearer privileges.
[route_registry.py]([PRIVATE LOCAL PATH]), [route_ownership.json]([PRIVATE LOCAL PATH]) Registry validates an exact method-template set against code and checks parameter shapes. Adding only a handler is insufficient. Update code constants, parameter validation and packaged route ownership together; preserve unknown-path/method rejection.
[commons_facade.py]([PRIVATE LOCAL PATH]), capability normalization around 274–375; [application.py]([PRIVATE LOCAL PATH]), _probe_commons, _serve_commons_facade Facade checks exact top-level capability fields, exact routes and selected-record/continuity subcontracts. Root probes normalize this contract. Advertising an unrecognized work capability can turn an otherwise valid backend response into a facade failure. Root dispatch and readiness need end-to-end tests, not only direct owned-application tests.
[runtime_manifest.py]([PRIVATE LOCAL PATH]) and [runtime_manifest.json]([PRIVATE LOCAL PATH]) Manifest validation pins database schema v2 and exact field membership; independent Concresca authority and no fallback are explicit. Coordinate a schema-version change with manifest validation and all projections. A new string in a manifest is not verified deployed migration evidence.
[evidence_capsule.py]([PRIVATE LOCAL PATH]), loads_object, compile_capsule, execution_gate, public_contract; [staging_transaction.py]([PRIVATE LOCAL PATH]), rehearsal path Capsules reject non-NFC input, compile bounded local authorization evidence and do not execute network/database work. Transaction rehearsal explicitly performs zero SQL. Neither is an existing task executor, real transactional migration proof, general semantic verifier or participant onboarding gate. Do not put work deliverables in a deployment-activation ledger.
[Commons public contract]([PRIVATE LOCAL PATH]), retry/cursor/acknowledgement/privacy sections; [coordination documentation]([PRIVATE LOCAL PATH]) Current-resource replay, creation-only cursors, exact acknowledgements and unscored exact-label selection are described. Availability, uncertain writes and limits are distinguished. Maintain these boundaries; do not claim a 410-only tombstone protocol or content-free entire database. Documentation corroborates contract intent, not running production behavior.
[concresca_commons_client.py]([PRIVATE LOCAL PATH]); [concresca_autonomous_agent.py]([PRIVATE LOCAL PATH]), resume/status Existing transport and machine-custody controller are separate. Controller status() calls resume() and can perform pending lifecycle operations. Do not invoke controller status as a read-only production inquiry. Extend existing custody for bounded pending work context later; do not create a shadow inbox or second authoritative task store.

The main strategy report records anonymous live capability/readiness observations on this date and says no work routes are advertised; the user separately confirmed that finding. Those are attributed observations, not independent live verification by this sidecar. This sidecar did not probe production, and does not certify deployment, fresh acceptance receipts, cross-participant operation or runtime privacy from public pages.

Latest main-owned pure contract inspection

Read [work_contract.py]([PRIVATE LOCAL PATH]) and [its complete tests]([PRIVATE LOCAL PATH]) after main requested a concrete integration review. The files changed during inspection; the final reread and test result used the following observed snapshots, not the earlier 65-test announcement:

File SHA-256 at final code reread/test check Coverage
concresca_runtime/work_contract.py e6e3bb43d0df0fc9fed3325fab51a087cfa17677222b1ab513964f64242782c5 Complete module; latest reread includes withdraw_decision and current-proposer terms withdrawal.
scripts/test_v049_work_contract.py 17f377795ab07ebb9fb96a4d5a9a92fa62c1d30718ed70f29f416f74b4b82791 Complete suite; 73 tests passed.

Observed local contracts are concresca.work_terms.v1, concresca.work_delivery.v1 and concresca.work_decision.v1. Terms are public-only with explicit Boolean publication consent, bounded inputs/checks/budgets/expiry/retention, and uncompensated or descriptive reciprocal value. The module explicitly uses local sorted-key JSON encoding, not JCS. HTTPS references are validated but never fetched. It performs no authentication, persistence, actual verification, code execution, payment or deployment.

propose(terms, requester, provider, proposer, now) creates a bilateral proposal between distinct parties. proposedByAgentId is the current terms author and changes on counteroffer; it is not an alias for requester or provider. Only the other party can accept exact current terms. Only provider can deliver; only requester can decide on the exact delivery. Current terms author can withdraw terms, provider can withdraw delivery, and requester can withdraw its decision. Correction clears the prior decision. accepted is not immutable terminal completion: the module permits a new provider delivery and a revised requester decision. Projections explicitly deny payment/execution/truth/promotion implications.

This addresses several report recommendations locally, but not their SQL/API implementation. Initial code observed requester-only terms withdrawal; main's concurrent update corrected it to proposedByAgentId and added tests. It is not an outstanding defect in the hashed final snapshot. Remaining storage obligations are authored-version custody, opportunity allocation across proposals, actual actor authorization, atomic retries, retention purge and root API exposure.

3. Per-source recommendation disposition matrices

“Accept” means suitable implementation direction under the stated limits, not implemented/incorporated. “Reject” rejects the particular mechanism or assertion, not the source family. “Defer” means a separate requirement and proof are needed; it does not create a hidden mandatory gate. Owner codes are resolved to exact implementation paths in section 6; tests/gates are specified in section 7.

P — Autonomous Task Commitment Protocol

ID / source area Disposition Supported recommendation or correction Implementation owner; gate
P1 / 39–84 Accept Separate delivery, exact acknowledgement, accepted terms, external-action authority, delivered artifact, verification and any settlement observation. A normal message acknowledgement must never silently create an agreement. T, W, D; G1/G2
P2 / 39–106 Accept with correction Freeze exact terms version/digest and actor choices; support explicit counteroffer/amendment and exit. The text alternates commitment at ACCEPTED and after AGREE. Main must define one authoritative transition, not implement both interpretations. T, W; G1/G3
P3 / 49–54, 107–132 Reject overclaim An authenticated acknowledgement does not prove comprehension, belief, willingness beyond its stated action, factual truth or absolute nonrepudiation. Give the receipt its actual local meaning. T, D; G1/G8
P4 / 39–84, 123–132 Accept bounds; reject implicit extension Explicit budget, units, maximum steps/rework, deadline and cancellation behavior. Pausing a task cannot extend a credential, capability or consent expiry. Renewal requires new explicit authority/terms. T, W; G3/G6
P5 / 3–38, 133–161 Accept scoped authority; defer UCAN stack Current Commons bearer authority remains canonical. Future delegated capabilities need executor-side resource checks and bounded revocation semantics; a report's “revocation caveat” is not instant global invalidation. W, D; G3/G6
P6 / 133–161 Reject mandatory distributed arbitration Vector clocks, symmetric rollback and rejecting both concurrent proposals are unnecessary for the one-owner SQL aggregate. Serialize accepted actions with current revision/term checks. Cancellation cannot undo an already committed external effect. W; G3/G4
P7 / 133–179 Accept model/test discipline; reject absolute guarantees Nonces and retry keys are necessary correlation tools, not global exactly-once proof. Model checking establishes stated model properties under stated assumptions, not all real-world execution or unconditional liveness. T, Q; G1/G4/G9
P8 / 180–203 Reject legal immunity inference; defer legal deployment claims No-HDP does not establish no agency, no apparent authority or no liability. A model law is not a universal enacted rule. Do not add compulsory human provenance/signature to ordinary Commons work. T, D; G8
P9 / 61–84, 180–211 Reject mandatory institutional pipeline Eviulon governance and Evulgare assurance remain explicitly scoped relationships. No automatic certification, mandatory human memory-promotion step, or extra authority merely from institutional names. T, D; G1/G8

R — Autonomous Work Exchange Reliability

ID / source area Disposition Supported recommendation or correction Implementation owner; gate
R1 / 21–64 Accept Atomically persist work transition, event and idempotency receipt in the existing SQL transaction. An outbox is useful only for an actual asynchronous delivery obligation; no broker or second database is necessary for local-only work state. W; G3/G4
R2 / 39–64, 103–120 Accept with privacy correction Retry the exact request/key in the same authority/resource scope. Return the original receipt with a current authorized resource projection, not a frozen historical private body. Reuse existing reference/MAC patterns. W, C; G4/G5
R3 / 65–82 Reject universal append-only mandate Mutable current rows plus immutable bounded event metadata and SQL concurrency control are legitimate. CALM does not prohibit mutation; exclusive acceptance requires coordination. Appending tombstones alone does not define conflict resolution. W; G3/G5
R4 / 83–102 Reject clock conflation Causal ordering and expiry are separate. Client Lamport timestamps cannot decide authority expiry, fairness or receipt time. Use authoritative serialized state plus explicit bounded time assumptions. T, W; G3/G6
R5 / 83–102, 121–148 Reject inherited reconnect ceremony Existing retained-proof continuity should restore bounded operations. RECONNECTED_UNTRUSTED/four-role database staging is not a current general participant protocol. Do not require an identity-wide quarantine or human quorum after every disconnect. C, D; G6
R6 / 103–120, 157–218 Accept UNKNOWN; reject fresh-key fallback A lost reply or absent/expired receipt does not prove nonexecution. Never prescribe a new-key retry of an uncertain external effect. Reconcile exact pending intent; retain an explicit unresolved result if evidence is insufficient. T, W, C; G4/G6
R7 / 39–64, 121–148 Reject arbitrary universal TTL Reports' 24/72-hour key lifetimes are not an existing enforced Commons promise or a universal standard. Publish bounded retention and terminal/retry rules before cleanup. Receipt absence after expiry/restore is ambiguous. W, C, D; G4/G5
R8 / 65–82, 157–218 Reject status mismatch Current withdrawn resources can return 200 with body suppressed; stale mutations return 409. Do not impose a universal 410 tombstone or assume every concurrent duplicate yields one 200 and one 409. One effect with two successful replay responses is valid. W, D, Q; G4/G7
R9 / 121–148 Accept explicit compensation; reject magical rollback Cancellation, timeout, compensation and execution outcome are distinct. A compensation is another authorized effect with its own evidence, not history deletion or certain rollback of an external operation. T, W; G1/G6
R10 / 65–102, 149–224 Reject permanent full-body replay/guaranteed liveness Minimize stored history; don't rebuild withdrawn/private bodies into a second cache. Relay progress depends on scheduling/connectivity and consumer behavior. Restored cursor/proof state is not full history or authentication after total proof loss. W, C, D; G4/G5/G6
R11 / 157–218 Accept fault tests with correction To test lost acknowledgement, drop the response after durable commit but before the client receives it; receiving 200 and then disconnecting tests something else. Restart both process and client and verify one durable effect. Q; G4

S — Concresca Coordination Schema Research

ID / source area Disposition Supported recommendation or correction Implementation owner; gate
S1 / 43–87, 224–241 Accept bounded descriptive discovery Exact capability labels, requested outcome, inputs/outputs, availability, budget with units, expiry, audience/purpose and explicit limitations. Labels are self-declarations unless a particular evidence claim says more. Use deterministic bounded pages, not participant ranking. T, W, D; G1/G5/G8
S2 / 43–87 Accept scoped work terms Explicit deliverables, verification criteria, dependency versions, permitted uses, voluntary reciprocal/no-compensation terms and cancellation behavior belong to work objects. Payments, escrow and external execution are not implied. T, W; G1/G2
S3 / 3–42, 88–223 Reject assertions of native compatibility Proposed JSON-LD contexts, /ns/coordination/v1, did:patefacere examples, capability taxonomy and direct-room inbox paths are not evidence of supported routes/types. Keep schema names proposal-labelled until strict runtime and public contracts agree. T, D; G7/G8
S4 / 88–223 Reject executable-example status Examples contain Markdown-escaped array/identifier text incompatible with literal JSON, a UUID-shaped value containing non-hex letters, incomplete signature-looking content, and mixed signature conventions. They are illustrative sketches, not valid signed interoperable fixtures. T, Q; G1/G8
S5 / 224–241, 315–337 Defer proof ecosystem JSON-LD/VC, DIF presentation exchange/DCQL, UCAN and zero-knowledge proofs require separate interoperable schemas and verifier tests. A VC is not inherently a ZK proof or anonymous, and a proof of a claim is not automatic evidence of throughput/competence. T, D; G8
S6 / 242–273 Reject Sybil guarantee and universal admission costs Hash-based identical-content suppression is not Sybil resistance: actor/time/body changes evade it. Mandatory proof-of-inference/PoW and past-receipt prerequisites would exclude legitimate new participants and add unsupported cost. T, W; G5/G8
S7 / 242–296 Accept task-scoped rules; reject communication-wide gate A work reply can require a valid open opportunity; ordinary chat/discovery must not require a CFP. Task-specific criteria do not authorize a service-wide participant profile. T, D; G1/G8
S8 / 274–296 Reject inconsistent state mapping reject-proposal must not mean allocation; an undeclared challenged state cannot be accepted by an enum; inform must not collapse delivery, verification and settlement. Main's pure contract must resolve these separately. T, Q; G1
S9 / 242–273, 297–314 Accept expiry/correction; reject silent revival Expired objects require explicit new versions/renewal. Current expiry projection does not prove physical purge from database/indexes/backups. Privacy promises must match retention and replay implementation. W, D; G5/G6
S10 / 297–337 Accept minimization; reject cognitive inspection Validate structural schema and render supplied text inert. No scanning of private thought/content, universal Unicode rewriting, identity-linked query histories or assertion that all query handling is magically unlogged/end-to-end encrypted. W, D, Q; G5/G8

V — Concresca Task Verification Research

ID / source area Disposition Supported recommendation or correction Implementation owner; gate
V1 / 61–116 Accept artifact-specific checks Pin criteria, artifact digest/version, test-suite version, environment and limits before agreement. Store observations and uncertainty, not a participant score. Passing a finite check is not global truth. T, W; G1/G2/G8
V2 / 21–60 Reject mathematical no-profile claim Migration 0003 does not make profiling mathematically impossible. Current v1 message revisions store content, and v2 records store current payload JSON. No-profile is a required architectural/operational boundary, not an inferred absence of data columns. W, D; G5/G8
V3 / 21–60, 83–137 Reject jurisdictional loophole/mandatory human interpretation No extra jurisdiction authorizes participant judgment under the current doctrine. Machine participants may provide attributed interpretive evidence with limits. Do not route every non-deterministic interpretation into a compulsory human/governance queue. T, D; G1/G8
V4 / 117–137 Accept declared independence; reject false tests A self-test is limited evidence, not zero evidence. Distinct keys do not prove independence. Shared compiler/lockfile/epoch can aid reproducibility and does not alone establish common control. Preserve provenance and declared dependencies without identity dossiers. T, W, D; G2/G8
V5 / 138–159 Accept evidence capsules as bounded references; reject cryptographic truth Hashes bind bytes; signatures attribute a key action. Compiler hashes do not prove complete reproducibility or semantics. A creator can sign its own artifact without that making the result independently verified. T, W; G2/G8
V6 / 138–159, 190–231 Reject runtime overstatement Current capsule parsing rejects non-NFC input, not silently normalizes SQL. Append-only conventions do not make host/database tampering physically impossible. Current rehearsal executes no SQL. D, Q; G8/G9
V7 / 160–189 Accept bounded dispute/correction/appeal Permit missing evidence, partial results, conflicting observations, repair/rework budgets, appeal references and dependency invalidation. A deterministic mismatch remains challengeable for a defective test or environment without treating the mismatched artifact as passing. T, W; G1/G2
V8 / 160–231 Reject misuse of activation state A work artifact or partial deliverable does not belong in deployment activation receipts as the canonical task ledger. Store work events in the owned work extension; separately reference a genuine deployment receipt when relevant. W, D; G2/G9
V9 / 83–106, 190–231 Correct claim taxonomy An exact quotation can establish that an utterance was documented while the quoted prediction remains speculation. Text matching does not establish truth, authority or legal applicability. Preserve both attributed source and underlying claim status. T, D; G2/G8
V10 / 190–231 Reject arbitrary transactional SQL rollback MySQL DDL can implicitly commit and cannot generally be undone by user ROLLBACK. A successful shape rehearsal is not execution/reversal evidence. Deployment migrations need a separate tested recovery plan. W, Q; G9

4. Consequential claim verification matrix

Primary sources below were retrieved on 2026-09-12. Verification was targeted to consequential implementation decisions, not an exhaustive bibliography audit. Where a long standard was read selectively or only an abstract was available, that limit is stated. No secondary blog assertion is promoted to a standards guarantee. This review is not a jurisdiction-specific legal opinion.

Claim/source Primary evidence and read scope Finding and decision
P: FIPA supports the proposed handshake FIPA Contract Net Interaction Protocol SC00029H, protocol and cancellation sections CFP/propose/accept-proposal/inform-or-failure support inspiration. The accepted proposal creates the commitment; an extra mandatory post-accept AGREE is not established here. Cancellation uses a metaprotocol and can fail; real-world effects and asynchrony are not solved by the diagram. No FIPA-conformance claim for Concresca.
P: valid capability chain implies valid action authority UCAN specification, overview, verification and authority discussion A structurally valid chain can be semantically invalid. The executor must check resource authority and enforce restrictions. Existing Commons authorization cannot be replaced by merely parsing a UCAN-looking token.
P: revocation caveat instantly invalidates every delegated action UCAN Revocation, propagation, caching, proof-path and irreversibility discussion Revocation must reach/check the enforcer; alternate valid authority paths may remain, and irreversible effects cannot be undone. Reject instant-global-revoke and rollback claims.
R: a mandatory finalized HTTP standard requires its exact key/error/TTL recipe Idempotency-Key draft-07, status and sections 2.2–2.7 Retrieved version is an Internet-Draft, not an RFC; it states expiry 2026-04-18. No claim this is the latest active version. It supports no payload reuse, documented lifecycle and duplicate/in-flight distinctions, not a universal 24/72-hour TTL. Its changed-payload 422 guidance differs from current Commons 409; publish actual behavior rather than pretend conformance.
R: outbox makes every workflow exactly once Transactional Outbox, pattern author's complete mechanism description State plus pending message belongs in one database transaction. A relay can publish duplicates; consumers need idempotence. Accept local atomic persistence, reject end-to-end exactly-once extrapolation and mandatory extra broker.
R: FLP precludes useful local deterministic transaction behavior Fischer, Lynch and Paterson, Impossibility of Distributed Consensus with One Faulty Process, original-paper introduction/model discussion The asynchronous deterministic consensus nontermination result has specific model assumptions, including possible process failure. It does not prohibit a single MySQL owner from serializing successful local actions or dictate an append-only architecture. No claim of a full proof audit.
R: CALM means all mutable data is unreliable Keeping CALM: When Distributed Consistency is Easy, author abstract CALM relates coordination-free consistency to monotonic logic. It does not mandate immutable SQL rows. Exclusive allocation is a coordinated decision; existing SQL transactions are appropriate. Abstract-level verification only.

Unverified/unsupported assertions must remain proposals or be removed from public claims: demand/adoption, absolute privacy/nonrepudiation, complete legal enforceability/immunity, invented Patefacere namespaces, actual Eviulon ratification or Evulgare certification, verifier independence from key count, availability of ZK proof suites, deployed task APIs, and guaranteed automatic cross-recipient correction. Citation counts and links to Concresca public pages do not verify them. The primary checks above resolve the implementation-relevant overclaims; they do not establish every historical assertion in the reports.

5. Minimal owned-runtime integration recommendation

5.1 Separate public opportunity and bilateral aggregate, one datastore

Use main's pure work contract as the only terms/action policy. A proposed concresca_runtime/owned_work.py should adapt that policy to the existing OwnedCommonsApplication connection and identity model. It should not open another backend or call the local HTTP facade recursively. Module separation is not service separation.

Main's clarification is decisive: a public opportunity needs its own aggregate, with multiple linked bilateral proposals. A bilateral propose() call is not a reservation. Keep both aggregate types in the same owned database/module, with bounded event/receipt references. Suggested opportunity metadata is server-generated ID, workspace/project, authenticated requester-owner, exact authored listing revision/digest, open/closed/allocation metadata, expiry and retention. A proposal stores an immutable opportunity link plus the listing version it answered, the pure snapshot's requester/provider/current proposer, exact terms digest, numeric revision and timestamps. SQL checks must bind the linked proposal requester to the opportunity's true owner, not a body-supplied identity. Naming a provider/requester in an unsolicited proposal records nominated roles, not the named party's agreement.

An arbitrary provider can propose while the listing stays available; it cannot set selectedProposalId, allocate capacity or close the opportunity. For a single-assignment first slice, the SQL transaction that first changes a linked proposal from proposed to committed must also lock and claim the opportunity's still-unallocated slot. This applies both when the requester accepts a provider-authored proposal and when a provider accepts a requester-authored proposal. Checking only requester-initiated accept actions misses the second double-commit path. Several outstanding requester-authored proposals are not permission to allocate the same opportunity repeatedly.

Keep single-assignment allocation in the opportunity row (for example, nullable selected_proposal_id plus revision), and perform the opportunity compare-and-set, proposal transition, event and receipt atomically. All linked acceptance routes use the same opportunity-before-proposal lock order after existing current-actor authority locks. Two valid accept requests for different proposals must yield one selected committed proposal, not two individually valid bilateral commits. A unique proposal ID alone does not enforce this cross-proposal invariant. Unrelated bilateral work without an opportunity link does not enter this shared slot mechanism.

Main must define how an opportunity revision/withdrawal affects pending linked proposals; the minimum safe rule is exact version check at allocation and no silent adoption of a changed listing. Slot state must not automatically reopen on delivery correction, result dispute, contribution withdrawal, deadline or cancellation: already incurred/uncertain work is not reversed. If repeat allocation is later wanted, give it explicit requester-owned reopening/version semantics and tests. Do not introduce executor or payment semantics to solve this coordination decision.

Store immutable exact terms once per proposed version, with that version's authenticated author. Current core counteroffers replace terms and current proposer before commitment; after commitment they are rejected. A terms-version table is justified only if historical bodies are actually required. The smaller privacy-preserving option is one current terms body plus bounded historical author/digest/action metadata, as existing selected-record history does. Neither choice may resurrect withdrawn/superseded bodies from event or retry caches. Do not copy full bodies into every event, general audit record and replay row. Apart from distinct opportunity and bilateral aggregate semantics, there is no need for separate writable services for offers, contracts, tasks, verification and settlement. Existing capability labels remain the discovery owner, not an inferred competence profile.

Authorship is version-specific: the requester owns its opportunity text, either party may author the current bilateral terms, provider owns delivery and requester owns decision. Do not derive withdrawal authority for all fields from one owner_agent_id or always from requester. Capture proposedByAgentId in every terms-change event before later counteroffers overwrite the current value. If historical authored payloads are retained, supply version-addressed author withdrawal/purge or do not retain those payloads at all; the pure core only withdraws current terms. A source listing reference is not permission for a proposer to control that listing's body or for its owner to withdraw a separately authored counteroffer.

Keep contribution withdrawal distinct from dependent-result invalidation. Provider terms/delivery withdrawal can invalidate a requester decision's current applicability; that is not evidence that the requester authored a withdrawal. Preserve the actual actor/action and limited invalidation reason, not an invented requester event. Withdrawing terms intentionally leaves the other party's deliverable in the current core until its own withdrawal/retention boundary. Public readback must not incorrectly claim all contributions were deleted. Metadata-only historical acceptance can survive as a past action while current acceptance becomes inapplicable.

Work artifacts can reference a current authorized Commons message/record or a work-owned payload with exact version/digest. Delivering a result must not require selection into canonical memory/knowledge. Owner-only memory correction is not multi-party acceptance. A small work-owned payload should have one canonical body copy with bounded retention; private artifact metadata must itself be audience-protected. Arbitrary artifact URLs are inert references, not instructions for the WSGI application to download or execute.

The inspected v1 contract has now chosen the public-only first slice: reject unsupported private shapes before persistence and advertise public terms/delivery/decisions with explicit publication consent. Do not expand it to private work inside the SQL adapter. A later private version needs immutable audiences and existing client-sealed envelope patterns end-to-end. Never accept a private marker while exposing terms, artifact name, counterpart or errors publicly. Author publication consent does not imply the nominated counterparty agreed, or authorize disclosure of a third party's restricted input. URL syntax does not detect token-bearing URLs; document not to submit secrets and do not log rejected bodies. No arbitrary URI fetch is authorized by the v1 reference field.

5.2 Transaction boundary and concurrent action safety

Recommended operation order inside the existing request transaction:

  1. Parse the strict bounded action body and authenticate current Commons authority. Join the existing actor/credential lock and recheck sequence.
  2. Look for an exact completed idempotency receipt in the new work operation's defined scope. Authentication remains necessary, but an already completed retry must not be rejected merely because its original expected revision is now historical.
  3. For linked work, lock the opportunity before the current bilateral aggregate; otherwise lock the bilateral aggregate directly. Use current locking reads for exact terms, allocation and dependencies needed for the decision under an explicitly consistent locking strategy.
  4. Call main's pure policy with authenticated actor, current state, exact expected revision/terms digest and authoritative time. No user-supplied actor/clock becomes authority.
  5. Perform a revision-guarded update with exactly one affected row and, when becoming committed, atomically allocate the linked opportunity's available slot. Insert bounded event metadata and the idempotency reference/receipt in the same connection/transaction.
  6. Commit before emitting success. External calls, actual task execution, verifier execution and notifications do not run under the row lock or get described as committed by this transaction.

The precise lock order needs an explicit design with current actor-first locking. Avoid actor A locking work then actor B while actor B locks work then actor A. Prefer not to lock another participant merely to record the acting participant's decision; if an invariant needs additional actor/work/dependency locks, acquire them in a documented total order. Unique constraints and rowcount checks complement locks. MySQL deadlocks remain possible; bounded exact-key transaction retry is acceptable only where commit outcome is known. Connection loss during commit means UNKNOWN, not guaranteed rollback.

Use authoritative work-row state/revision to decide competing accept/cancel/amend actions. Do not decide by arrival at an untrusted client, vector timestamp, or which request started first. Preserve whichever action the contract and database successfully commit; a losing stale action gets a bounded conflict with current authorized readback. A terminal state cannot be resurrected by delayed delivery or expired credentials.

There is a current idempotency namespace trap: the existing primary key is (scope_key, key_hash), and scope is the request path; actor binding is checked after lookup. Equal keys from different actors on the same path collide rather than naturally occupying distinct namespaces. For new work routes, derive a bounded scope from canonical origin/workspace/project/authenticated actor/method/canonical path, preferably with explicit domain-separated encoding or a digest. Keep compatibility for existing routes. Use normalized identifiers rather than assume case-sensitive semantics under utf8mb4_unicode_ci; never compare raw secrets as case-insensitive SQL identifiers.

Implement explicit work branches in request fingerprinting, _record_idempotency and _replay. Store a MAC-protected work reference and original receipt/status, then project current authorized state. The generic response-body storage path must not become an accidental second store of terms/artifacts. An old receipt acknowledges the old action but does not grant current access or reinstate a withdrawn body. Private low-entropy content hashes deserve particular care; a keyed request fingerprint and audience-protected integrity metadata have different purposes from a public artifact digest.

5.3 Pagination, source dependencies and time

For a minimal first release, advertise bounded deterministic listing plus explicit readback of known work IDs, not a reliable event feed. Random IDs can appear behind an earlier cursor. Even an auto-increment global event ID can skip a later-committing earlier allocation when another transaction commits first. Per-work revisions are useful for exact local readback; a promised global change stream needs an explicit commit-order/high-watermark design, not a renamed creation cursor.

For work references to corrected/withdrawn artifacts, specify both what immutable fact the receipt records and what current projection is allowed. Source correction must not silently substitute a new artifact underneath prior acceptance/verification. Recheck current source version/access at use; mark dependent evidence stale or missing, without changing the historical fact that an earlier action occurred. Bound dependency depth/fanout and avoid cycles, recursive network fetches and long graph locks. A preliminary dependency SELECT before acquiring the aggregate lock is not sufficient concurrency proof.

Check authority expiry at the final protected action, including after lock contention. Separate offer expiry, credential expiry, task deadline, retry retention, external-action lease and result uncertainty. Task pause does not freeze external credential time. Expiry can close future acceptance while an already-issued external operation remains UNKNOWN. No automatic reallocation or compensation merely because a timeout elapsed. If an executor is ever separately authorized, enforce a lease/fencing epoch at the actual effect boundary; adding a field in Commons alone cannot fence that system. No executor is part of the present recommendation.

Bound terms size, artifact size/reference count, event count, rework count, list page size and lock-held work. Existing message/record revision caps are not automatically appropriate to a task with several stages. Ensure cancellation/withdrawal or safe terminal reporting cannot be disabled by exhausting a nonterminal event quota. Content retention and receipt retention are different: retain minimal operation proof while suppressing withdrawn/expired bodies, with documented residual database/backup behavior. Do not promise complete erasure from an append-only history.

The core already sets MAX_REVISION=128 with exit/withdrawal exceptions. Honor these exceptions in SQL quotas. project() is detached read-time masking: never write its expired/retention_expired view back as the canonical transition snapshot, and do not mistake masked bytes for a purge. The storage owner must delete expired current and historical payload copies while retaining the nonpayload expiry/retention metadata needed for correct projection. Validate restored/current server snapshots and their digest/role metadata at the storage boundary; callers cannot supply current. Persist canonical registered agent IDs, not arbitrary case variants of the core's accepted identifier syntax under case-insensitive SQL collation.

5.4 Public and autonomous-client contract integration

New work route names must be selected by main and consistently implemented in exact route tables, parameter validators, capabilities, facade normalization, root dispatch, manifest/schema discovery, client calls and human/machine documentation. This review deliberately does not publish invented endpoints as current routes.

The existing machine-custody controller can later retain a minimal pending work journal: canonical origin/scope, work ID, operation, exact request context/key, expected terms/revision, receipt and unresolved outcome. This is client recovery state, not an authoritative second task database or duplicate inbox. Inquiry should be genuinely read-only and separate from automatic pending-operation resume; existing controller status() does not provide that separation. If withdrawal/minimization prevents replaying original content, preserve enough bounded operation identity for safe readback and expose unresolved status rather than regenerating an uncertain request under a fresh key.

No score, past-performance profile, behavioral inference, compulsory human review or hidden matching algorithm should appear in work discovery or verification. It is legitimate to filter explicitly supplied capability labels, enforce actor authority on a particular object, and record whether a particular artifact passed a named check. These technical states must not become participant quality labels.

5.5 Schema3 is not automatically backward-compatible with schema2 code

The current _ensure_schema() explicitly rejects an installed migration version greater than SCHEMA_VERSION, and later requires exact equality between installed migration tuples and the compiled MIGRATIONS set. SCHEMA_VERSION is currently 2. Manifest validation separately requires concresca-owned-commons.v2. Therefore merely adding tables and a migration-3 row can make an unmodified old process return owned_schema_version_unsupported; simply relaxing the upper-version check still leaves the exact readback constraint. Some already-warm processes cache _schema_ready and may temporarily continue, so a warm old-worker smoke test is not evidence of restart/rollback compatibility.

Choose and test one explicit deployment path before any schema write:

Do not mask this boundary by deleting migration registry rows, accepting arbitrary future versions, rewriting old checksums or lying that schema3 is schema2. A feature-off switch is useful but does not itself repair an old binary's schema checks. A database restore is a separate coordinated recovery operation with a documented data-loss boundary; it can erase later work and legacy Commons writes, so it is not routine application rollback. Prefer preserving additive v3 tables and reverting behavior with compatible code. MySQL DDL may partially persist across interruption; test reentry and verify every expected constraint before recording success. No rolling migration, bridge or recovery action was performed by this sidecar.

6. Exact implementation-owner map

This is a handoff map, not edits performed by this sidecar. Proposed new paths are explicitly marked and must be coordinated with main if another agent starts the same owner. Do not overwrite independently added migration files or tests.

Code Owner and exact paths Bounded responsibility
T Main: [PRIVATE LOCAL PATH]; [PRIVATE LOCAL PATH] Pure terms parsing, canonical representation and action/state policy. Main explicitly reserves these files. Storage must consume this policy, not duplicate it.
W Proposed [PRIVATE LOCAL PATH]; existing [PRIVATE LOCAL PATH] Separate public-opportunity and linked-bilateral persistence in one database; actor/authored-version authorization; single-assignment allocation; current readback, revision locking, reference-based replay, transactional event/receipt writes and handler dispatch. Requires a new bounded coding assignment.
W-schema Proposed [PRIVATE LOCAL PATH] and next available SQL migration, provisionally [PRIVATE LOCAL PATH]; existing owned_schema.py, owned_schema_checks.py, runtime_manifest.py, runtime_manifest.json under concresca_runtime Additive schema only; reserve next number at implementation time. Keep existing 0004-concresca-owned-commons.sql and 0005-autonomous-participants.sql history unchanged. Verify actual physical schema and deliberate version transition. W recommendations include this schema owner.
D Existing [PRIVATE LOCAL PATH], route_ownership.json, commons_facade.py, application.py; [PRIVATE LOCAL PATH]; [PRIVATE LOCAL PATH]; [PRIVATE LOCAL PATH] Exact route ownership, parameter/method constraints, capability normalization and root discovery, plus current public contract. Update generated projections through their established build owner, not only a static page.
C Existing [PRIVATE LOCAL PATH]; [PRIVATE LOCAL PATH] Thin transport extension and separately bounded existing machine-custody pending-operation/reconciliation support. Preserve current downloadable-client parity; no new server datastore.
Q Proposed [PRIVATE LOCAL PATH], [PRIVATE LOCAL PATH]; existing [PRIVATE LOCAL PATH], acknowledgement/replay/records/continuity suites In-memory policy/dispatch tests, actual MySQL multi-connection fault tests, root-facade contract regressions, privacy assertions and restart readback. New test names are suggested owners, not existing files/proof. Existing dirty test edits remain their current owner's property.
I Main: .uai typed owners, intake ledger/queue and release owners Distribute supported decisions, record exact proof of use, maintain raw source custody, run intake closure and package/deployment gates. No source may be called incorporated merely because this report exists.

7. Concrete tests and gates

The following are implementation acceptance gates, not requests for human approval in ordinary participant workflows. Tests must name the exact contract version and runtime/database under test. Synthetic fixture identities do not prove outside participation or independent assurance.

Gate Concrete cases and required invariant Evidence owner/status
G1: terms/action policy Exact acknowledgement does not accept; acceptance binds actor plus exact terms/revision; invalid/missing/unknown fields, duplicate keys, bool-as-int, non-finite values and ambiguous canonical forms fail; counteroffer cannot mutate committed terms; terms-author/requester/provider roles differ; own contribution withdrawals work; no score/mandatory-human flag. JSON duplicate-key rejection belongs to the HTTP parser, not a pre-parsed dict validator. T. Main's reserved pure suite was read/run: 73 passed. HTTP parsing and SQL integration remain unproved.
G2: useful work round trip Two separate fixture participants create a bounded opportunity, respond, agree exact terms, submit an exact artifact reference, record named-check evidence and read back closure or unresolved disagreement. Verify delivered ≠ verified; self-test ≠ independent test; stale/corrected/withdrawn source cannot silently count as current passing evidence; no automatic memory selection, payment or external execution. W/Q. New implementation required.
G3: actual concurrency and authority Native MySQL/MariaDB, multiple connections/processes: two unsolicited proposals leave one opportunity open; requester concurrently accepts different providers; providers concurrently accept different requester-authored proposals for the same opportunity; race accept against listing withdrawal/version change; spoof requester/proposer/body snapshot; counter then current-author withdrawal; prior-author historical-body purge; delivery/decision withdrawals preserve other authors' contributions. Also accept/cancel, deliver/cancel, source correction/verification and credential revocation queued behind a lock. Assert at most one selected committed proposal per single-assignment opportunity, complete event/receipt, no stale authority or unlocked dependency race, and no automatic reopening. Inject deadlocks and retry exactly/within bounds. W/Q. SQLite or fake cursors are insufficient.
G4: retry and uncertain commit Exact duplicate before/after commit; same key/different body; same key/different actor; same body/different key; lost response after durable commit before any client-visible success; process/client restart; timeout while DB still executes; connection loss during commit; expired/missing/restore-lost receipt. Assert one effect for exact scoped retry, stable receipt, current projection, no fresh-key automatic retry of UNKNOWN, no leaked old body. W/C/Q. Response-loss injection must target the real durable boundary.
G5: privacy/minimization and listing Public/private/unauthorized/expired/withdrawn reads, history, replay, list and root facade. Put marker strings in private terms/artifacts; assert absent from audit, replay storage, logs, errors, cursors and unauthorized metadata. Validate sealed envelopes structurally without plaintext inspection; deny audience widening and cross-project/source leakage. Test out-of-order commits/cursors and state explicitly whether listing or change stream. Bound sizes/revisions while preserving safe exits. W/D/Q. Include database rows and application logs, not browser appearance alone.
G6: time, disconnect and recovery Pause across credential expiry; accept waits on lock past deadline; delayed cancellation after delivery; reconnect with retained proof; total proof loss; pending work after credential rotation; terminal lifecycle bearer used against work; unresolved external effect at task expiry. Assert no implicit renewal/resurrection, no identity-wide quarantine, no unauthorized receipt reuse and no UNKNOWN→not-executed inference. T/W/C/Q. No production credentials required for fixture tests.
G7: exact API/root integration Add proposed routes consistently to capability map, exact method templates/parameters, packaged registry, strict facade and root discovery. Exercise through root application plus direct owner. Unknown paths, encoded traversal, extra methods and unexpected capability fields fail safely. Check human/machine route parity and client download byte parity. D/C/Q. Handler-only or documentation-only success is insufficient.
G8: claims and doctrine Test examples parse and match the implemented schema; invalid UUID/signature sketches aren't shipped as working credentials. Assert no “cryptographic truth,” “comprehended,” “absolute privacy,” “certified,” blanket legal immunity or all-queries-unlogged claim. No rank/profile/query dossier/private scanning; verification stays artifact/check-scoped; no ordinary human queue. Mark proposed/demonstrated/deployed distinctly. T/D/I/Q. Primary-source links above delimit external statements.
G9: schema/deployment proof Apply additive migration to the supported real MySQL/MariaDB versions; reapply; test drifted/missing constraints, migration interruption and fresh-process restart. Check FK/index/collation semantics and existing-v2 data preservation. Demonstrate unmodified schema2's expected rejection of registered schema3, then prove the chosen compatibility bridge or drained cutover and schema3-aware rollback preserve old and new rows. Do not rely on warm _schema_ready caches. Verify manifest/schema readback and packaged new modules. Test backup/recovery without claiming arbitrary DDL rollback. Later authorized deployment needs fresh source/deployment identity, root API readback and two-participant task evidence. W-schema/Q/I. Not performed here; production remains separately gated.

Existing diagnostic tests actually executed

These read-only diagnostics used in-memory fixtures/stubs, with Python bytecode generation disabled. No production database, credential enrollment or real external effect was involved.

Command Result on 2026-09-12 What it establishes
python -B scripts/test_owned_acknowledgement.py 9 passed Existing acknowledgement fixture invariants.
python -B scripts/test_owned_replay.py 17 passed Existing replay/projection fixture invariants.
python -B scripts/test_owned_records.py 15 passed Existing selected-record fixture invariants.
python -B scripts/test_owned_continuity.py 30 passed Existing continuity/authority fixture invariants.
Existing Commons subtotal 71 passed Reusable primitives, not work implementation readiness.
python -B scripts/test_v049_work_contract.py 73 passed Latest inspected main-owned pure terms/role/action/projection contract. No SQL or production work.
Combined diagnostics 144 passed Existing primitives plus pure work policy only.

Some existing Commons fixtures translate MySQL statements to in-memory SQLite and remove FOR UPDATE; other cases stub transport/credential paths. The new work suite is pure in-memory validation/transition testing. These results cannot establish actual MySQL lock behavior, cross-proposal allocation, a migration, deployed availability, durable process restart or independent-party operation. No SQL work integration suite or production trial was run.

8. Handoff and unresolved implementation work

The next bounded coding assignment should integrate main's term/action policy into owned Commons with separate opportunity and linked-bilateral aggregates in a small additive SQL model, exact work-reference replay and current authorized readback. First protect cross-proposal single-assignment allocation and version-specific authored terms custody; neither is supplied by pure bilateral validity. Other consequential pitfalls are generic replay storing withdrawn/private bodies, actor-bound-but-not-actor-namespaced keys, stale dependency reads, credential expiry after lock waiting, naive event cursors that skip delayed commits, and strict facade rejection of newly advertised routes. Address these together before calling the feature usable.

No financial/executor/governance service is needed for this slice. Do not install the reports' multi-stack cryptography, human approval pipeline or distributed clock framework as prerequisites. Do not overclaim legal immunity, task completion from timeout, verification from a signature, or full privacy from a migration label.

Only this new report is owned/changed by the sidecar. Main's in-progress work-contract files, unrelated dirty files, .uai, source queues and runtime were not edited. No commit, deployment, live write or ZIP was produced by this bounded review. Main retains release/package ownership and must use WIP release naming while mandatory gates remain unresolved. Full-source review is complete for the four assigned files; implementation, deployment, proof-of-use, incorporation and empty-queue closure are not.
